Known among locals as “Kocaev,” the structure was originally built by the father of Tuhfezade Mehmet Ali Ağa in the early 1800s.Findings and witnesses suggest that the mansion’s most glorious period was during Mehmet Ali Ağa’s lifetime. At that time, he also served as a district governor in Rhodes.

In the early 1950s, with no surviving family members, the mansion and remaining estate were put up for sale by the Probate Judge.Having changed hands several times, the mansion suffered alterations and damage while being used as a tobacco warehouse, cinema, school, and wedding hall, and was partially destroyed.In Datça—described by the ancient Greek historian and geographer Strabo as “the land where God sends those he wishes to live a long and healthy life”—this two-hundred-year-old cultural heritage was reborn in the early 2000s like a phoenix rising from its ashes.Located atop Reşadiye Neighborhood, which gave the peninsula its second name, Mehmet Ali Ağa Mansion has been faithfully restored and transformed into a cultural center offering flawless short-term and seasonal stays with 5 Mansion Rooms and 13 Stone Rooms.
